Alkenrode Logies

Welcome to the world of “Alkenrode”. A special guest house has been created in an authentic farmhouse located in the hills of South Limburg, a district in the very south of the Netherlands. The guesthouse has been stylishly restored respecting the history of the farm. The use of a local stone called “Kunradersteen”, old oak beams and clay gives this holiday home an authentic character while all luxury is available. We provide a large kitchen, a sauna, an antique bathtub, and a spacious living room with a wood burning stove. French doors give access to a large terrace with garden furniture. Would you like to beat your friends at petanque? That can be done on our “Petanque Court” in the shade of two very old cherry trees. Take a glass of Pastis and imagine yourself in France. And in the evening prepare a delicious meal using fresh herbs freshly picked from our herb garden. Feel welcome and at home. We will ensure that every need is fulfilled . Enjoy your stay….

Hanneke & Ralph

In 1999 Hanneke Heintges and Ralph Thomas, bought a neglected farmhouse in the rural community of Elkenrade. Settled in the countryside, the house contained many authentic elements, but needed urgent maintenance. With great enthusiasm and pleasure we started a building conservation project. The buildings were transformed to amongst others a large private kitchen, a hall for private concerts (check www.muziekdageneys.nl) or art exhibitions (see www.kunstroutegulpenwittem.nl). The transformation of an old barn into a luxurious guest house ended in 2014. We would like to welcome you to Elkenrade, where every day we enjoy the bond we have with the estate and its surroundings. You can find us with a glass of wine in the rose garden or feeding our chickens in the meadow. Meet Lola and Frida our naughty cats. Or read your favorite book in the afternoon sun, enjoying our gardens. If you like, you can join us in picking cherries or collecting walnuts. In short, experience the wealth of outdoor living of Alkenrode.

Ralph

On March 5, 2024, Ralph passed away unexpectedly.

Alkenrode will continue in Ralph’s spirit, just as he would have wanted.

In his beloved rose garden, artist Jo Havenith has built a small monument from Kunrader stone, featuring a beautiful sculpture. A candle burns there.

Ralph is deeply missed.
